1. What are some materials commonly used in accessories?

Silver is a very popular material used in accessories. It is also less expensive when compared with gold. Silver is also very soft in nature and requires mixing with other metals in order to make the accessories. Sterling silver or 925 silver is recognized when out of 1000, 925 is silver and 75 is alloy.

Fine silver is when out of 1000, 999 is silver and 1 is alloy.
Coin silver is when out of 1000, 800 or 900 is silver and 200 or 100 is alloy.

Steel is another material used in accessories. Out of which 316 Stainless Steel is gaining popularity in recent years. This type of steel has added Molybdenum and a stable protective coating of chromium oxide which can stand heat up to 1700 degree celsius, anti-corrosive and anti-oxidation. The finishing product looks very trendy due to its bright and shiny colour. This type of material is cumbersome and difficult to make and the price is much expensive when compared to other alloys.

Copper is a popular product used for making accessories but tend not to make it in its original colour. Most of the items made by copper has its surface electroplated in rhodium or gold.

Alloy is a mixture of silver, copper, zinc and nickel which has its surface electroplated to create a precious metal texture. Price is more reasonable and can maintain its lustre for at least 6 months. It is the mainstream material that is used in accessories.
